At least 800 members of the youth league of RPF Inkotanyi in Gasabo District met on Saturday in a general assembly, during which several important issues affecting the youth in particular, and the country in general were discussed.

The meeting that convened at Olympic Hotel in Kimironko Sector attracted several leaders, including officials from the National Youth Council and party leaders at the district level among others.

Among the highlights of the event was the call on the youth to actively participate in national programmes, mainly promoting hygiene in their respective communities and also play their role in scaling up the subscription to community based health insurance, Mutuelle de Sante.

Addressing the well attended meeting, Robert Mwesigwa, the Executive Secretary of the National Youth Council, challenged the RPF Youth League in Gasabo District to use the power of social media to promote hygiene.

“We have the community service (Umuganda) every month; however this is not enough if we want to promote hygiene, because it only happens once a month. You can for example start up social media platforms which you can use to identify places that need immediate intervention,” Mwesigwa told the meeting, saying that such efforts will ensure healthy communities.

This message was also echoed by the RPF Chairman in Gasabo District, Stephen Rwamulangwa, who availed himself to the youth, saying that any hygiene-related issue identified in the community and needs district action, can be brought to his attention any time to ensure rapid intervention.

The young cadres vowed to work towards making Gasabo the pacesetter for all other districts in matters of hygiene.

Another topic on agenda for the day was an elaborate presentation on the ideology of the RPF Inkotanyi, during which the youth were reminded of what the party stands for and the direction in which it wants to take Rwandans, towards socio-economic transformation.

The assembly was another opportunity for the youth in the district to showcase their achievements, which were mainly in the area of vocational skills.
