RPF Chairman takes campaign trail to Nyamirambo

The RPF Chairman, President Paul Kagame has urged Rwandans to be proud of who they are and always work with confidence to make the right choice in the upcoming elections and thereafter while developing their country.

The RPF Chairman, President Paul Kagame has urged Rwandans to be proud of who they are and always work with confidence to make the right choice in the upcoming elections and thereafter while developing their country.

The campaign rally that was held at Tapis Rouge in Nyamirambo, next to Kigali Regional Stadium, was the second of the day, following one earlier in the day from Rulindo District.

“We should be proud of who we are. Who would want to strive for being another person? Whoever would think about that would want to ask themselves what other people have that they don’t have,” he said.

He added: “In this democratic dispensation, we are doing our job. We are not doing any other people’s work. Let’s do it well, develop ourselves, and be happy about it”.

Nyamirambo, an area known in the capital Kigali as being home to many young and innovative urban residents as well as a home for a significant Muslim community, was yesterday burning with excitement as thousands of RPF supporters gathered at a public ground known as ‘Tapis Rouge’ to receive the party’s candidate.

Former Minister for Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harerimana, told the incumbent president while welcoming him in Nyamirambo that he has championed freedom for all citizens in the country and that the Muslim community in the area will vote for him because he has given real freedom to its members.

Harerimana, who heads PDI political party which was mostly founded by Muslims in Rwanda to stand up against discrimination under the previous post-colonial governments, thanked Kagame for being a real freedom fighter.

“We got our freedom when you liberated Rwanda Mr. President,” the sheikh said on behalf of other members of the Muslim community in the country.

As he asked for everyone’s support in voting the RPF candidate back in the top office, Harerimana explained that the president, whom he also fondly calls the ‘father of the country’, needs to stay at the helm of the country so he can make it stronger.

“We can only ask God to keep protecting you so you can continue to build a foundation for Rwanda that is strong enough to resist from any attacks,” he said.

MP Henriette Mukamurangwa Sebera, who was on the RPF campaign rally in Nyamirambo said that her party has chosen to support Kagame in the on-going campaigns mainly because members of her political party, the Liberal Party, have requested for it.

“We as PL leaders we respect our party members’ wish to maintain Paul Kagame in office and we believe we are stronger working together with the RPF,” she told The New Times in an interview.

The Chairman will on Friday take a break from the rallies, but he will pick up again on Saturday and meet supporters in Eastern Province’s Kayonza, Gatsibo, and Nyagatare districts.
